The “Samosa Controversy” is the latest buzz across Himachal Pradesh, and it’s quickly grabbing national attention. The curious case revolves around a batch of samosas that were meant for the Chief Minister (CM) at an event but somehow never reached him, prompting a CID investigation. Even the CM himself has commented on the issue. Here’s a closer look at what happened.
During the inauguration of the CID Cyber Wing Station, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu attended the event at the CID headquarters. At the venue, an officer of the Inspector General (IG) rank instructed a Sub-Inspector (SI) to arrange refreshments for the CM. Following the instructions, the SI tasked an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and a Head Constable to order snacks from the Radisson Blu Hotel, which were delivered in three boxes.
The refreshments were apparently intended for the CM, but they never reached him. When questioned, a police officer revealed that the staff on duty from the tourism department, who were responsible for serving, were unaware that the snacks were meant for the CM. The SI, who had been instructed by the IG, was the only one who knew the intended recipient.
After this, the boxes were handed to a female inspector, who, without consulting any senior officials, sent the snacks to the Mechanical Transport (MT) department, which handles refreshments. These boxes then circulated through several hands. As the situation escalated, accusations were made against the officials involved, claiming they acted irresponsibly, leading to an investigation.
Chief Minister Sukhu clarified that the investigation is not focused on the missing samosas themselves but on the improper conduct surrounding the situation. However, the opposition party BJP has seized the opportunity to criticize the government. BJP MLA Randhir Sharma remarked that the government seems less interested in developmental work and more focused on trivial matters, such as food.
This strange case has left many wondering: where did the samosas go?
