The sacred and much-awaited Amarnath Yatra 2025 is all set to begin from July 3, with the first batch of pilgrims departing from Jammu under tight security arrangements. This 38-day pilgrimage to the revered Amarnath Cave Shrine, dedicated to Lord Shiva, will continue until August 9, 2025.
The Yatra, organised annually by the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB), draws lakhs of devotees from across India and abroad. This year, more than 3.3 lakh devotees have already registered for the Yatra, and preparations are in full swing to ensure a smooth and safe experience for all.
Flag-Off Ceremony and Security Arrangements
To kick off the pilgrimage, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who also chairs the SASB, will flag off the inaugural batch from the Yatri Niwas base camp in Jammu. Pilgrims will travel under the protection of multi-layered security.
Authorities strongly advise individuals with serious medical conditions—especially heart, respiratory, or orthopedic issues—to avoid participating in the physically demanding, high-altitude trek.
Two Official Routes to the Holy Cave

Nunwan–Pahalgam Route (48 km)
This traditional path, situated in Anantnag district, offers a scenic yet longer journey, typically taking 3 to 5 days to complete one way. Sheshnag, Panchtarni, and Chandanwari are important stops along this road.
Baltal Route (14 km)
A shorter but steeper route from the Ganderbal district, this trek can be done within a day. It is physically more demanding but preferred by those seeking a faster darshan.
To maintain safety and manage crowds, a daily cap of 15,000 pilgrims has been enforced.
Yatra Schedule and Timings
This year, the Yatra will run from July 3 to August 9, 2025. During this period, pilgrims will be allowed to visit the Amarnath Cave Temple daily between:
- Opening Time: 6:00 AM
- Closing Time: 6:00 PM
In addition, daily Aarti ceremonies will take place as follows:
- Morning Aarti: 6:00 AM – 6:30 AM
- Evening Aarti: 6:00 PM – 6:30 PM
These aartis are performed in the presence of the holy ice Shivling, which naturally forms inside the cave every year and is considered a divine symbol of Lord Shiva.
Eligibility Criteria for Pilgrims
Devotees between the ages of 13 and 70 are welcome to make the journey. Due to the physically demanding trek and high altitude, authorities strongly discourage individuals with serious medical conditions—especially heart, respiratory, or orthopedic issues—from participating.
Online Registration Process for Amarnath Yatra 2025
The online registration process began on April 14, 2025, and is mandatory for all intending pilgrims. Without a valid registration slip, no pilgrim will be permitted to join the Yatra.
To register online, follow these steps:
- Visit the official SASB website – www.shriamarnathjishrine.com
- Click on “Register Now”.
- Fill in your personal details, including name, age, gender, address, and contact number.
- Upload a passport-size photograph, a valid photo ID, and the CHC-approved medical certificate.
- Select your preferred route (Baltal or Pahalgam) and desired date for the journey.
- Pay the registration fee of ₹220.
- Receive confirmation via SMS and email.
Offline registration is also available at designated bank branches. However, both online and offline methods require pre-approved medical clearance.
CHC Medical Certificate: A Mandatory Requirement
One of the most important prerequisites for the Yatra is the CHC (Community Health Centre) Medical Certificate, which certifies that the pilgrim is fit for high-altitude trekking.
Here’s how to obtain it:
- Step 1: Go to the SASB website and get the official Amarnath Yatra 2025 medical form.
- Step 2: Visit your nearest CHC or approved doctor (download the updated list from the SASB site).

Helicopter Services: A Convenient Alternative
For those unable to trek or preferring a quicker option, helicopter services are available from both Baltal and Pahalgam to Panchtarni.

- Pahalgam–Panchtarni
These services must be booked in advance through authorized operators listed on the SASB website. Importantly, even helicopter pilgrims are required to have a valid registration and CHC Medical Certificate.
What Happens After Registration

- Issue of the Yatra Slip
