Indore, Madhya Pradesh – September 15, 2025: A high-speed truck driven by an intoxicated man plowed into pedestrians and vehicles in Shikshak Nagar on Airport Road, Indore, on Monday evening. The accident killed at least three people and injured several others, and officials warned that the death toll could rise.
Accident Details
According to Additional Commissioner of Police Amit Singh, the truck first hit two motorcycles at Ramchandra Nagar Chowk. The truck dragged one of the bikes under it, which caused sparks that started a fire. The truck then continued uncontrolled for about 1 km, hitting more people and vehicles before stopping near Bada Ganpati Chowk.
Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes, with screams of panic and people lying on the road. Local resident Subhash Soni said, “The truck driver was driving recklessly and was clearly intoxicated. The truck’s tyres caught fire, and people began falling as it plowed into vehicles. My brother-in-law’s legs were severed, and he was rushed to Geetanjali Hospital.”
Injured and Rescue Operations
Rescue teams immediately rushed the injured to nearby hospitals, including Geetanjali Hospital, Banthia Hospital, and MY Hospital. At least nine people were injured, including three in critical condition.

- Ashok Gopalani, 71, son of Prahlad Das Gopalani
- Kajal Gopalani, 63, wife of Ashok Gopalani
- Ankita Ritesh Gopalani, 30, wife of Ritesh Gopalani
- Sanvid Dudhani, son of Ritesh Dudhani
- Palak Joshi, son of Anil Joshi
- Anil Kothare, 35, son of Lal Singh Kothare
Cause and Police Action
Deputy Commissioner of Police Krishna Lalchandani said the driver, was heavily drunk and lost control of the truck. Police arrested him and sent him for a medical examination. Officials also seized the truck for further investigation.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav instructed authorities to ensure proper treatment for the injured, ordered an inquiry into .2.263how heavy vehicles were allowed in the city late at night.
Eyewitness Accounts
Residents described horrifying scenes. Soni said, “The truck’s brakes failed, and it dragged multiple bikes and people along the road. Many victims were severely injured, and the fire added to the chaos.” Another witness, Pradeep Dewalia, said, “The truck sped past Vidya Palace, crushing people and vehicles without stopping, despite bystanders shouting at the driver.”
Officials Visit the Site
MLA Malini Gaud and former MLA Sudarshan Gupta visited the accident site and hospitals to check on the injured. Divisional Commissioner Sudam Khade also visited Banthia Hospital to oversee rescue and treatment operations.
