Veteran actor Pankaj Dheer, best known for his iconic portrayal of Karna in B.R. Chopra’s legendary television series Mahabharat (1988), passed away on October 15, 2025, at the age of 68. The actor had been battling cancer for a long time and had undergone major surgery earlier. However, his illness relapsed in recent months, leading to his demise.
CINTAA Confirms the News
The Cine & TV Artistes Association (CINTAA) confirmed the sad news in an official statement, expressing deep grief over the loss of one of the industry’s most respected figures. Pankaj Dheer had served as the association’s former Honorary General Secretary and Chairman of its trust, contributing significantly to the welfare of fellow artists.
His cremation took place the same day, at Vile Parle (West), Mumbai, where family, friends, and industry colleagues gathered to pay their final respects.
A Career That Spanned Generations
Pankaj Dheer rose to national fame through his unforgettable performance as Karna, the noble warrior from Mahabharat. His powerful screen presence and emotional depth made the character immortal in the minds of millions. In fact, his portrayal of Karna became a visual reference for textbooks, and temples even house statues modeled after his performance, underscoring his cultural impact.
Beyond Mahabharat, Dheer’s career included notable roles in popular television series such as Chandrakanta, Kanoon, Zee Horror Show, Badho Bahu, and Sasural Simar Ka. He also left his mark in Bollywood films including Soldier, Andaz, Baadshah, and Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge.
